Pretending

2006

Pretending was an exhibition I had in Belleville Gallery, Reykjavik, in October 2006. I wrote a text, using maritime signal flags, and then the catalog included the cipher so you could decipher and read the text. The size of the work is 1.3x3 meters and it's printed on a aluminum plate. There were only made 26 catalogues, one for each letter in the alphabet. It came in a brown envelope, with some pins, a miniature version of the work and other nice stuff.
I've never shown this work since the exhibition, and since then I've been seeing people use the maritime flags a lot, on shoes, CD covers, posters, etc. That didn't make me feel good about showing this work, but then I thought that everything has been done. And it's not like I'm reinventing the wheel, I'm just putting those flag in a new context, by using them to write a lot of text. |
