Times New Siggi

2008

Times New Siggi started out as an type illustration for the New York Times, for an article about censorship on the internet. After finishing the illustration I decided that this could be nice as a full typeface. It was done very quickly, without too much thought, as I wanted to keep the letterforms quite random and different from each other.

What I realized after finishing the typeface was quite surprising and pleasing at the same time. When used big (30-70pt) it looks like Times New Roman, drawn by Siggi Eggertsson. In medium sizes, 14-25pt, it looks like Times New Roman that has gone through an old fax machine, and when it's used small (6-12pt) the distortion almost disappears and it could as well be the original Times New Roman. So it kind of has 3 different layers. Pretty cool.

This typeface will be available for purchase in the near future, more about that later.

The typeface includes most of the letters and symbols that are used in daily life.

The original illustration for the New York Times. Click here to read the article, it's quite interesting.
